The temperature was over 70 degrees by 6:15am. I realize with the humidity, it felt much warmer (definately in the "muggy" realm). It didn't matter...I wasn't going to scrimp on my long run today. However, I did keep in mind the idea of not worrying about hammering out a long run; I would just run this one EASY!!
Nothing is easy about running in this weather. My body tightens up and my legs get heavy just stepping out the door. But today, NO EXCUSES. I went out and just RAN.
It was nice to keep a slower pace. I noticed things around the lake that I usually just ignore when I'm running faster. The lake was a light shade of grey, and it was calm, yet I could see movement coming from under the surface (possibly fish or ducks). At one point, I saw a baby mole scatter around the road. I wanted to lead him to the side of the road (so I didn't have to see him flattened on my second time around), but I just let him go on his own. He was kind of cute. His front legs were so short they stuck straight out in front of him. His eyes were squinty. and he moved in kind of a zigzag pattern. I imagine he can't see where he's going. I wondered where his mom was. It reminded me of all the kids running around with no parents in sight. This is supposed to be the age of caution, isn't it!?
Speaking of caution...
I wish I could see more people out running or at least walking. I came across a car parked on the side of the road, with NO ONE in it. I thought, ooh, maybe a psycho is hiding in there...no, it was just an older man that parked it there so he could go for a run. I didn't meet up with him, but it's nice to see people out there exercising! I'm a suspicious runner. I try to have a hightened sense of awareness; that's why I feel better when I see others running. I tend to relax a bit.
Okay, that was a whole lot of wind! Total for today: 11 miles. Total for the week: 32 miles.
Thought for the day: This is enough thinking for today...I'm going to go stretch and do my crunches. Have a good one!
